Variable area flow meter (Variable Area Flow Meter ) or Rotameter
Float-type rotameters, due to their low cost, simplicity, low pressure drop, relatively wide operating range, and linear output, are commonly used for measuring variable flow rates. These flow meters operate at a relatively constant pressure and can measure the flow of liquids, gases, and steam.
Operation Principle
This device works such that, as the fluid flow increases, the float rises to create a larger flow area for the fluid to pass through.

Installation Method
This type of rotameter is installed vertically so that gravity can return the float to its original position when the fluid flow decreases. Some disadvantages of this device include relatively high cost for larger sizes and the requirement for vertical installation, which may not be feasible if space is limited.
