Nuova Fima Pressure Switch
Inspection of electrical contacts in the instrumentation branch
A contact, switch, or electrical connection is responsible for opening and closing the current (power supply) in electrical circuits.
When the contact closes, the electrical load (for example, a simple lamp) is connected to the circuit, and when it opens, it is disconnected from the circuit.
An important point in selecting a contact is its capacity and the number of possible operations (switching on and off) within a specific time period.
The contact capacity is evaluated from three aspects: current, voltage, and frequency (AC, DC).
These values are determined based on the electrical load being supplied.
Contacts can be connected directly to an electrical load (pump, compressor, motor, control valve, signal lamp, etc.) or through a relay or contactor.
Since the capacity of instrumentation output switches is limited and relies on the use of an intermediate relay in the circuit, contacts are usually connected indirectly to the load through a relay.
Electrical signals used in instrumentation, control circuits, and low-voltage systems
In instrumentation, two types of measurement Continuous و Point to Point are considered
In continuous measurement, transmitters are used, which have analog (continuous) outputs.
In instrumentation switches, the measurement is point-to-point and digital, meaning the output is either zero (off) or one (on).
The contacts used in the output of instrumentation switches are examined from various aspects as follows.
Contact Capacity – Rating
Contact capacity refers to the range of current and voltage within which a switch can repeatedly open and close without damaging its structure or mechanism. This is specified by the manufacturer separately for AC and DC signals.
Number and type of output (Pole and Throw)
Depending on the type of switch and the intended use of its output, the number and type of output contacts are determined.
The outputs of instrumentation switches can be on/off, SPST, SPDT, or DPDT.
For example, an SPDT output has one NO contact and one NC contact, which allows one electrical load to be connected and the other to be disconnected at the switch's set point.
(for example, the pump is turned off and the signal lamp (alarm) is turned on).
