This type of valve only allows fluid to flow in one direction and has only two ports: one for fluid inlet and the other for fluid outlet.
There are different types of check valves for various applications, but they are usually small, simple, inexpensive, and operate automatically.
An important concept in check valves is the cracking pressure, which is the pressure at which the first sign of reverse flow is observed and equals the minimum upstream pressure.
