This device is one of the most commonly used accessories in pressure measurement instruments. It is utilized across various industries with diverse fluids, including hydrocarbons, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, and beverages, to measure pressure in situations where the process should not come into direct contact with the pressure-containing parts of the measuring instruments.

In fact, it can be stated that there are certain conditions where direct contact between the fluid and the pressure gauge is not possible due to significant risks. If any of these fluids come into contact with a transmitter or pressure gauge, their performance may be disrupted, and reliable and accurate measurements cannot be expected. A diaphragm seal has two main functions:
Isolating the measuring instrument from the process
Transmitting pressure to the measuring instrument
In fact, it can be stated that this instrument has a special design due to its specific applications. To transmit pressure within devices or an isolated environment, a flexible diaphragm is required. The process side is separated by the flexible diaphragm, and the space between this diaphragm and the pressure measuring instrument is completely filled with a fluid. The pressure from the measured environment is transmitted through the elastic diaphragm to the fluid and from there to the measuring element, that is, to the pressure gauge or transmitter.
In general, diaphragm seals are categorized into two distinct groups and are known by the following names:
1. Flanged Diaphragms
2. Spoon-Type (Capillary) Diaphragms
Each of these types has its own specific shape and is offered in various designs for use in refineries and industrial plants. Flanged diaphragms, as the name suggests, consist of two flanges with a thin diaphragm placed between them. This diaphragm serves as the flexible membrane we refer to.
Diaphragm membranes have two distinct sides, each interacting with different elements. For example, one side of the diaphragm seal comes into contact with the process fluid, while the other side must be filled with a specific material. This filling material can vary and may include glycerin oils or silicone oils, among others.
