Ultrasonic Flow Meter 

Today, ultrasonic techniques have become an integral part of most precision measurement instruments, especially non-contact devices. Ultrasonic flow meters, which are used for a wide range of fluids including gases and liquids, operate based on the Doppler effect. A frequency is generated by a source and continuously monitored by a receiver. When the fluid flow changes, the frequency shift caused by the fluid’s velocity can be measured. Calibration of these frequency changes allows the flow to be determined using ultrasonic methods. Although ultrasonic flow measurement has its complexities in practice, the majority of ultrasonic flow meters are based on the Doppler principle.

When selecting an ultrasonic flow meter, consider the following factors:

1. Flow Measurement Range

2. Line Pressure

3. Installation Method

4. Fluid Density or Viscosity

5. Portable or Fixed Device

6. Presence of impurities in the fluid

Ideal for measuring challenging liquids, such as wastewater in pipes (Difficult Liquids).

In cases where flow meters that contact the liquid are not suitable, Doppler flow meters perform exceptionally well because their sensors do not come into direct contact with the chemically aggressive or abrasive effects of the fluid. Since the sensor does not physically touch the inside of the pipe, there is no obstruction to the fluid flow, and no pressure drop occurs.
