One of the important quantities in industrial units is the system temperature. For this purpose, various devices are used that, depending on the need, not only measure the temperature but often also have the ability to generate a control signal as well as act as a switch.

Temperature switches are devices that can operate a contact to open or close at specific temperatures. In general, in industry, switches are devices that operate digitally and perform the open and close functions, while sensors can fully measure a quantity and provide an analog output.

The sensor used in this switch may be either light-sensitive or metal-sensitive. When the pointer approaches the sensor, the sensor detects it and sends a signal to the control room.

Methods of measuring temperature can be categorized into contact and non-contact types. The contact method involves the use of a sensor, which can be a thermocouple or a resistance thermometer (PT100). This measurement method, in analog models, is mostly carried out using the bimetal or gas-filled method, which consists of a bulb and capillary tube and is known as a gas thermometer.
The non-contact measurement method is mostly based on the amount of infrared radiation emitted by the target object into the environment. These thermometers are known as pyrometers, gun-type thermometers, or laser thermometers. The term “laser” is used because a laser beam is employed to indicate the target.
Temperature is measured in degrees Celsius, and in some countries where other scales, such as Fahrenheit, are also common, and in physical equations, the Kelvin scale is usually used.
