Electromagnetic Flow Meter

Electromagnetic flow meters measure flow accurately by detecting changes in magnetic flux caused by the velocity of the flowing fluid. In fact, by generating a magnetic field in the fluid passing through the flow meter and measuring the induced voltage, the device determines the flow rate.

Due to the operating principle of magnetic flow meters, the fluid must have sufficient electrical conductivity. Otherwise, the measurement will be disrupted, and alternative flow meter technologies such as vortex or turbine flow meters should be used. For example, magnetic flow meters cannot be used to measure the flow of demineralized or distilled water.

Electromagnetic flow meters typically operate at temperatures up to 80 °C. Depending on the application, the liner inside the flow meter can be made of materials such as PTFE (Teflon), hard rubber, or others. Below is a simple illustration showing the measurement mechanism of an electromagnetic flow meter.
