Wet and dry contacts in pressure switches (Wet Contact / Dry Contact)
Dry contacts refer to contacts in which the opening and closing mechanism is based on the connection and separation of two conductive blades within the switch mechanism.
These switches operate independently of voltage (up to the insulation breakdown limit), and their simple operation and lower cost have made them widely used in the industry.
The drawback of this type of switch is its low ability to handle frequent switching, which can lead to welding (pitting) between the two contacts.
Examples of these switches include push buttons, micro switches, and magnetic switches.
Wet contacts refer to contacts in which an electronic circuit, such as a thyristor or transistor, is biased, and the opening and closing of the circuit is controlled through them.
These types of switches are divided into two categories, NPN and PNP, depending on the type of transistor, and they require a DC power supply for the operation of their electronic circuitry.
Although the price of these switches is slightly higher, they can operate at high switching frequencies (very short time intervals in the nanosecond range) and have a much longer lifespan compared to dry contacts.
The applications of these switches are very extensive. In instrumentation, proximity sensors and the outputs of many pressure, temperature, and level switches can be of this type.
Explosion-proof switches (Explosion Proof)
The cause of explosions in hazardous areas is the formation of an arc during switching (opening and closing).
As the two contact blades approach each other, the current may jump through the air and create an arc (similar to what we often see when repeatedly turning a room light on and off), and the released energy can cause an explosion.
In this case, the voltage level is reduced significantly (down to 3 volts), eliminating the possibility of an arc. These switches are also referred to as NAMUR.

Isatis Process Instruments, the official representative of Nuovafima (Italy) in Iran, can provide various instrumentation switches for measuring pressure, temperature, flow, level, and more, with both immediate and scheduled delivery options.
