Ultrasonic Flow Meter
Ultrasonic flow meter
Ultrasonic Flow Meters are available in two types: portable (Clamp-on) and inline. The operating principle of these flow meters is that ultrasonic signals are generated by transducers mounted around the meter body and transmitted into the moving fluid.
are transmitted into the fluid. In the transit-time method, the signal’s travel time within the fluid (time of flight) is measured, and…
Ultrasonic Flow Meters calculate the fluid velocity based on the transit-time difference of waves between two sensors. Important parameters when selecting ultrasonic flow meters include the transducer material, resistance to interfering particles in the fluid, minimal influence of the meter body on measurement, temperature and pressure range of the flow meter, and more.
The measurement method in ultrasonic flow meters is categorized into two types:
-
Based on transit-time measurement
his method is well-suited for industrial applications, is highly accurate and reliable, and,
, in addition to measuring volumetric flow rate, provides information about the type of fluid by measuring the speed of sound.
For proper application of this method, a sound reflector in the flowing fluid is required. The fundamental difference between the two methods is that the transit-time method should be used for clean fluids, whereas the Doppler reflective type is applied for dirty flows and slurries.
