What is a thermocouple and how does it work?
When two dissimilar metals are connected together, which can be done by twisting or welding the two different metals, the point where they are joined is called the hot junction, and the other end of these metals is referred to as the cold junction. The cold junction is connected to the controller and measurement system, while the hot junction is installed at the location where the temperature needs
When there is a temperature difference between the hot junction and the cold junction, a voltage in the millivolt range is generated at the cold junction based on the temperature difference between the two parts of the thermocouple. The amount of voltage generated depends on several factors, such as the temperature and the type of thermocouple material used.
